This article is part of an ongoing, county-by-county, overview of the Rural Capital Area. This article covers household income and the income distribution in Llano County. This information helps track how well residents can afford basic needs like housing, food, and healthcare as well as relative prosperity compared to other areas.
As shown in Figure 1, median household income in Llano County has climbed steadily over the past decade, aside from a notable decline in 2022. Llano County’s median income has trailed the national median by roughly $6K-$10K in most years since 2014, and while that gap widened to about $15L in 2022, it narrowed back to just over $6K by 2024.

Figure 2 illustrates the cumulative change in median household income from 2014 to 2024. Income in Llano County grew 67.5% over the ten-year period, outpacing both the Rural Capital Area Region (56.0% growth) and the nation (52.1% growth). Growth was not steady however: median household income in Llano County declined roughly 2.5% between 2021 and 2022 even as incomes in the RCA region and the nation continued to rise, which temporarily widened the income gap. From 2022 to 2024, Llano County’s median income rebounded sharply, growing nearly 27% in just two years and pushing the county’s cumulative growth rate above both the region and the nation by the end of the period. Despite this outperformance, Llano County’s median income remains about $25,600 below the Rural Capital Area regional median.

Figure 3 shows that Llano County households are fairly spread across income levels, with a notable concentration at the top end. In 2024, 44.8% of households earned less than $60K annually, while 55.2% earned $60K or more. The largest single group earns $200K or more, making up 11.9% of all households, closely followed by the $100K-$125K bracket at 11.2% and the $75K-$100K bracket at 11.0%. Together, these top three brackets account for over a third of all households in the County, pointing to a meaningful share of high-income residents alongside a broad base of lower- and middle-income households.
